Eggs in Age-related Macular Degeneration (EggsAMD) - Clinical Trial
¿Cuál es el Propósito de este estudio?
If you join this study, you will be in it for about seven months. The study has two parts called the washout period and the testing period.
The washout period lasts four weeks. During this time, you will not eat whole eggs. You will write down what you eat for three days, and you will answer questions about your diet.
The testing period lasts five months. During this time, you will be assigned by chance to eat either two or four medium whole eggs every day. You will go to Duke every two weeks to pick up your egg product and to be weighed. You will also fill out a survey and a checklist about how many eggs you ate.
At the start and end of the testing period, you will visit the Duke Eye Center for a four hour appointment that includes vision tests and questionnaires. You will also visit the Duke Center for Living for about one to one and a half hours for tests on physical function, memory, thinking, and questionnaires. During both of these times, you will write down what you eat for three days.

People can join this study if they are 55 years old or older. They must have a condition called age related macular degeneration, which affects vision. They need to have a body mass index between 22.0 and 39.9. They also must be willing to follow the diet plan used in the study.

The goal of this pilot study is to see if people with intermediate AMD can follow a diet that includes eating whole eggs each day for 5 months.
