SPAN (Heart Health and Gestational Diabetes During Pregnancy) - Clinical Trial
¿Cuál es el Propósito de este estudio?
We are doing this study to learn more about how different factors in pregnancy lead to healthy babies. Specifically, whether factors related to father's health affect the placenta and baby, what part of placental and fetal genes are related to placenta health and baby growth, and to find out the best time to deliver when the mother has gestational diabetes.

¿Quién puede participar en el Estudio?
Adults ages 18+ who:
- Are pregnant with one baby
- Plan to deliver at Duke University Hospital or Duke Regional Hospital
The father of the baby can participate if mom enrolls.

¿Qué Implica?
If you choose to join this study, it will involve:
- An enrollment visit before 24 weeks gestation - we will take your body measurements, record your vital signs, collect samples (blood, urine, saliva), measure your arterial stiffness with a cuff on your thigh, and give you some surveys to fill out.
- A 3rd trimester visit - we will take an ultrasound of your baby, take your body measurements, record your vital signs, and collect a blood sample.
- Delivery visit - we will collect cord blood and placenta samples, and your baby will have a newborn exam.
